On this page, you will find information of particular interest to paddlers on the Little Spokane River: sweepers, closures, construction and development, rules, problems, happenings, and whatever else you wish to see here. Let us know!

Sweepers, etc: Throughout the Little Spokane there are NUMEROUS trees and branches which can become sweepers if you get swept into them. Note: at all times, use caution on the river, as conditions may change at any time. Although the river is gentle, moving water can kill. The river is about 40 to 60 feet (15 to 20 meters) across throughout most of the lower stretches. Stay in the middle and you should have few problems. The current is gentle, slow and steady.

Current River Flow: visit this USGS site for excellent info on Little Spokane current currents, with graphs and charts and histories and everything!

Rules:

  1. All use of the river must be by a device that keeps passengers out of the water. In other words, canoes, kayaks, and rafts are acceptable; inner-tubes, air mattresses, or swimming are not.
  2. No alcoholic beverages are allowed on the Little Spokane
  3. Keep your pets elsewhere. They do not belong in the Little Spokane Natural Area.
  4. Of course, please take home whatever you bring. Do not litter. Isn't that obvious?
  5. Because it is a natural area, please do not disturb the wildlife in any way. Fishing is allowed (guess they aren't considered wildlife...) but not from shore.
  6. Please report any problems to Park Rangers or the Sheriff's Office.
  7. Enjoy your experience!
  8. Wear your personal floatation device at all times.
